Cover, text, presumably pages between... looks like a book. (I read travel guides sometimes, just for the hell of it.) I'm reading Mario Pei's The Story of Language. It's pretty old -- written in the '40s -- but it's interesting despite the fact that I'm sure linguistics has come a long way since then and that much of what he's writing about is outdated. _________________ [by Atlas]

So...I just got Jane Eyre as my last book to read in English. Should I be joyful, saddened, indifferent, whatever? Haven't started reading yet.

I love Jane Eyre. Not quite as much as I love Wuthering Heights, but I love it nonetheless. (Though the last story arc is sort of pathetic, the first two are great.) If you have to read one of the books by the Brontes, Jane Eyre is probably a good place to start. It's a nicely simple storyline, the dialogue isn't impenetrable (though the French is a little annoying, if you don't know French -- obviously), and it's much easier going than Dickens. Jane herself, particularly for the period in question and the type of literature it is, is a really excellent character. _________________ [by Atlas]

So...finished Neverwhere and until I rob a bank, win at the casino, or start printing my own money (because I'm really capable of all these things ) I can't buy any more Neil Gaiman books. xD Though my mom said she'd get me some books within the next couple of weeks. Until then, I'm debating what to read. I'm looking at all my non-fiction. There's How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis, and it's been years since I read it (didn't even read the whole thing). I want to read Spiral Alive but I can't translate what hasn't been translated yet. How I wish I knew Japanese. Then I'd have plenty of reading materials without purchasing anything. =D

Timeline is the greatest book in the history of books. Timeline was here. The Bible is a loser.

So, I (more or less) finished the book today. I agree with you. Her writing style was a bit of a chore to read, but I managed with little difficulty. I enjoyed most of it immensely, mainly because I'm a romantic sap with an imagination. I'm glad to end my high school reading on a happy note. I might try Wuthering Heights next, just for fun.
I've been reading e.e. cummings Collected Poems along with Jane Eyre. I fell in love with his poetry when I read "in Just-" as an eighth grader, so I chose him as the subject of my English finals project. |

So I want to read more books by Neil Gaiman. So much, I had a dream I went to the bookstore and bought them. Actually, I don't think it was necessarily a dream - I had no control on what I was thinking, but I was looking at my window at the time, so it's like a dream-while-awake. My brother said he'd buy me a book and still hasn't...and he speaks of going to Borders this weekend. If that doesn't work, I'm walking to the downtown library. I haven't used my card in three years. O_O; I'll check out whatever they may have of his works. Problem is...I banned myself from using my card for a reason. Hiiii late return library fines. ;-; I'll have to put a note on my computer monitor if I do this. For now, I'm reading manga. A series called Enchanter - a series full of panty shots, large breasts of abnormal size, girls who actually complain about their back-breakingly large breasts being too small, and perversity all around. After this, I might re-read Spiral (both series). Again. >_>;

Anansi Boys. Smoke and Mirrors.
Smoke and Mirrors is a short story anthology, but it's great. Not all the stories are totally amazing, but Gaiman pretty much proves he can write about anything and make it pretty fun to read. Including some sort of vampiric sadomasochistic nymphomaniac Snow White.
And Anansi Boys is just great. |

American Gods should be read before Anansi Boys. _________________ [by Atlas]

I thought Neverwhere was her first Gaiman, but I could be misremembering, of course. (And I still recommend The Books of Magic, too... ) _________________ [by Atlas]

=( He. He. He read it. ;-; I'll probably get whatever I can, whatever they have at the bookstore and/or libraries - all will be read eventually. Unless someone mentions one is bad. And then I might read it anyway, because I prefer making my own opinions. I've only read Neverwhere so far - only one I own. I purchased it at a whim a few years after my friend suggested I read Neil Gaiman's books (and that was 2003). I can't remember what he might have suggested specifically, because all I wrote on the back of a card in my wallet was the author's name, and I didn't pick up the book till after I saw that card again...which was sometime when I switched wallets. <_<;
