This is just my experience, but it seems like maybe you can't get past that point because you started in the middle.

It's best to start small. Sketch out a rough idea of what you might want. That way, if you don't like it, or have to move something, it's easier. The best thing you can do for a drawing is to start it with a sketch, so you can refine it at that point. Once you get a part just the way you want it, you feel like you can't change it or move it, even if you have to for the drawing to be successful.
Personally I don't know what the style you're speaking of is, but I think that you should probably try building it up from the beginning. Work on all parts of the image at the same time and build it up equally. That way, it will all come together in the end!
It looks like you definitely have the potential to make it beautiful, though! Keep trying! It looks great so far!
