It feels like something is really odd about the Kamina one... I can't figure it out.

They look really good. I think the "weird" thing about the Kamina one is that it is a color that normally isn't around or associated with him. It still looks nice though.

I could be and probably am totally wrong, but I think the odd thing about the Kamina one is that his hair is almost exactly the opposite color of the background.

it's got to do with the coloring, and the effects. It lacks depth and makes it feel weird. The negative space to the left doesn't help, either

A new one in a style similar to the Kamina one. I tried to make it have more depth and stuff but I think I failed =(

I like what you were trying to go for with v1, but the lack of contrast in color choice makes it difficult to look at, therefore I like v2 better. It's more appealing than the Kamina one, so I think you did well. I like your style btw ;_;
