“It is said that in the world, another world exists. A world from another time, a world unknown to the normal world. It is believed by many to coexist with the visible world.It is said to be a world of infinite beauty and wonder. It is even thought that it is the true world, and the surface world is only an after image. Some believe that is the world of the gods, and that they inhabit it as their paradise, watching down at us. They thought it was the lost paradise, or heaven.

Of all the amazing stories told, one darker one has been spread throughout the surface world. The tale was that if the unseen world were ever to die, the surface world shall also perish…

The world’s name is Karyūkai, The Floating World.”

S T O R Y

Even in ancient times, Karyūkai has been long sought after. Sought by both the good, and the evil. Even though many dream of finding the Floating World, Karyūkai has kept its secrets hidden for ages. It keeps its mysteries around itself, enticing all those who know of it with promises of eternal life, endless happiness, or ultimate power. Stories have been told that Karyūkai was the true world between it, and the surface world. That the one who
can control Karyūkai can control both worlds.

Unfortunately, man kind is dark race, filled with evil. The evil ones of course searched for Karyūkai throughout the ages, desiring its power. They never yielded the results they wished for. Even those who would seek Karyūkai to protect it, and use it for good were unsuccessful.

Eventually, the rumors of The Floating World began to fade. Perhaps it truly was only a myth. As time went by, Karyūkai disappeared from the minds of people completely.

Then, suddenly, without warning, numerous people all over the world began to vanish entirely. The world feared what was happening, wondering how people all over the world could have magically disappeared. It was when one man returned, bloody, and on the verge of death, that they found out what had happened.

“Karyūkai…” the man said. He died soon after, that being the only clue.
Instantly, images, legends, and all other things regarding Karyūkai came back into being. It boggled the minds of today’s scientists and experts. How could the people have disappeared? Was this man in truly in Karyūkai? The Floating World of Legend? How could this be? Why were only a few spirited away from the surface world? Why?

Why?

The greatest minds in the world met to discuss the subject. People waited for answers; unfortunately they could give not one. However, an answer was given three days later. That night, three days after, a message drifted across the dreams of all the people on the surface world:

“Karyūkai is in danger…the Shadow have already begun to spread.

Those of you with eyes unclouded…awaken, and you shall find the gate to Karyūkai.”

I N F O R M A T I O N

In this RP you shall be playing 1 of 2 roles.

Role 1: You are a person from the surface world, who heard the dream, and has “eyes unclouded.” (This meaning you aren’t corrupted by the evil of the surface world— Yet, anyway.) That will be up to you as the story progresses. It’s only a requisition to enter Karyūkai, once you are in it doesn’t matter.

Role 2: You are an inhabitant of Karyūkai.

The Shadow are a group of evil Karyūkans. They are the threat to Karyūkai. They have begun to collaborate with dark minded humans trying to conquer both worlds and gain control. Their numbers are large, and they are powerful. The Karyūkans alone cannot stop them. Humans, when brought to Karyūkai, gain great power. The Karyūkans and Humans must work together to save both worlds.

Races:

Humans – You know what a human is. The only difference is that when you “awaken” and find your way to Karyūkai, you will gain the powers hidden within you, including magic, and a mastery of a weapon(s).

Karyūkans – The native race of Karyūkai. They are averagely taller than humans, and have paler skin. The normal height for a male is 6 feet 5 inches to 7 feet 5 inches. This can differ however, being taller, or shorter. A female’s average height is from 6 feet, to 7 feet. This can also differ. They are born magic users, and excel with a single weapon of their choice.

Magic:

Magic is the life blood of Karyūkai. All people who live there can use it. Magic is abundant in this world. There are four main elements: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. There are also 4 sub elements which are Magma, Ice, Nature, and Lightning. The sub elements are secondary to their primary element, but are formed by a combination with another element.

Magma = Fire + Earth (Primary Element is Fire)
Ice = Water + Air (Primary Element is Water)
Nature = Earth + Water (Primary Element is Earth)
Lightning = Air + Fire (Primary Element is Air)

Even though the sub elements are created from two elements, the user only can control it, and the primary element, not the supplementary element.

There are also two other elements that out power the rest. Light and Darkness.

Most people can only master 1 element, and their sub element. Users of Light and Darkness however can only master one. (Either light or darkness.)

Magic Specifics:

Elemental Magic (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) calls upon the power of the spirits corresponding to that element and uses that power in the form of spells.

Fire Magic
Spells which use the power of fire. There are a variety of spells in the fire category. Some can be used against individuals, and some can turn a wide area into a field of fire. Quite destructive.

Magma: Combining the powers of earth and fire, Magma can be a deadly force, causing eruptions from below.

Water Magic
Spells using the power of water and are the counterpart to fire spells. Water magic can be used to cut, crush, drown, or use an enemy’s strength against them. It is the most versatile of the elemental magic.

Ice: Using the powers of water and wind, water mages can use ice magic to freeze their opponents, or create blizzards.

Earth Magic
Earth spells call earth. Since the caster is usually in continual contact with the ground, Earth magic users have the most control and the most accurate attacks.They are the counterpart to air magic.

Nature: Combining earth and water, Nature can use vines and plants to attack. Some spells can create man eating plants.

Air Magic
These are spells which use the power of wind. Practitioners can manipulate the air to blow away enemies with powerful gales or even create a barrier of air. There are useful spells in the air category, such as levitation.

Lightning: Using the power of air and fire, lightning can be made to strike a target from up on high, or even create lightning bombs.

Outside of the elemental categories are Light and Dark magic. They are generally stronger than elemental magic.

Light Magic
Spells drawing their power from the power of holiness are called Light Magic. Light magic is the only magic that has the ability to heal and revive. It can be used defensively, creating barriers, dispelling curses, and using counter spells. It can also be used offensively drawing upon the power of the gods to create powerful attacks capable of destructive power. These spells in particular are categorized as “Divine Retribution.”

Dark Magic
Spells drawing their power from dark things are called Dark Magic. Dark magic is the only magic capable of casting curses on their enemies. Like its counterpart, it can be used defensively by summoning dark demons to do their bidding, or using the powerful attacks inherent in dark magic. Dark Magic has the most destructive spells, but it is also the most chaotic and hard to control. They draw upon the powers of the dark gods.

Karyūkai is in a medieval/feudal time period. Technology is very limited. (Crossbows, Canons at the most.)

In Karyūkai however, in addition to sailing the seas and oceans, many Karyūkans sail the air in airships. On water, and in air, ships highly resemble that of Chinese Junks and other ships of Asiatic origin. Keep this in mind should your character own them. In the air they are usually powered by large power sources, most often large crystals, thus keeping them floating.

Karyūkai is also known as the Floating World.Though it is called The Floating World, Karyūkai isn’t actually floating. It is on a parallel plane just above Earth. Karyūkai is highly reminiscent of feudal Japan/China ONLY in its natural appearance. (Foliage, mountains, you know, classic Japan/China from the great movies. Bamboo and such.) Not the buildings however.

The human world is known as the Surface World. You may call it Earth.
The year on Earth is 4016. Still technologically advanced, but rapidly declining due to wars. Post apocalyptic situations in most areas. Only a few small portions of earth are doing well. You will have to be from a country on earth should you be a human.

Notable Places:

Alte Stadt (pronounce German) –


(Dot in Upper Left Corner = 2 miles)

The largest city in Karyūkai. It is also its de facto capital. Alte Stadt is the most beautiful city in the world. It is built on a mountain, with streams and forests overlooking the ocean on the west. The buildings are white and elegant. A large palace rests at the mountains peak where the current ruler of Alte Stadt resides. Flowers and forests surround it, making it look like moving painting.

Marina Vecchia (pronounce Italian) – A city in the south built halfway on land, and half way on the water. The building style is very Romanesque. It rivals Alte Stadt with its beauty. Many skilled magic users live here which is how the city stays suspended on the water, never sinking. Many of them are experts in water magic. It is plentiful in beautiful white cherry blossoms.

Château De Nuage (pronounce French.) –



A gigantic white castle in the chateau style which also acts as a town. The residents all live within the castle, and are very well protected. They are excellent air magic users, and weapon experts. The Lady of the Castle, Madelaine is known as one of the best sword users in Karyūkai.

Hueso Casa (pronounce Spanish) –



Built deep within the mountains, Hueso Casa is a city renowned for its earth magic users, and skilled warriors. All the buildings are built from the large bones of monsters known as Esqueletos. They live within the forests. Needless to say, Hueso Casa doesn’t receive many outside visitors because of this eerie fact.

Vanhishikha (pronounce Hindi) –



The City of Flame. It has the most powerful fire magic users. It is the second largest city after Alte Stadt, but Vanhishikha has the largest population. It is situated in the Vanhi Desert. The buildings are made from the massive stone ruins found there. In the center of the city is a gigantic well. In the well is a massive flame that continuously burns, never dwindling, able to seen hundreds of miles away.

Weapons/Magic: There are no technological weapons in Karyūkai. (Guns, Lasers, etc.) There are crossbows, and such. You know, all of your medieval weaponry. If you’re a human, and do not already know how to use a weapon, you will learn quickly. There is a dormant ability for weapon mastery within you. Karyūkans can use weapons of any sort. Magic must have incantations or chants. They may be small, but must be larger than four words. If you are a human, you have dormant magic ability that will awaken in Karyūkai for your use should you use it. Karyūkans are already gifted with magic.
