PostSubject: Uninhabited Planet Survive - Stand and Fight Forever   Wed Sep 10, 2014 8:50 am

The story behind this AMV is a very personal one for me. As I fought and struggled through a seemingly never-ending battle with severe depression last year, it felt like the only people I had to turn to were a number of friends I had made across the net. For the longest time I tried talking to my family about it, but I'd somehow hit a wall every time and it would never come out right. Despite the length of this battle, however, I refused to give up. Even amidst the times when all I could seem to focus on were the negative aspects of my life, somewhere deep down I knew that life was worth it.

In the middle of an extremely brutal winter that made my struggle even harder, Dr. Casey, Slivius, and Suikoden introduced me to the anime "Uninhabited Planet Survive" (Mujin Wakusei Survive). I immediately noticed that right from the start, the show gave voice to a message - "Survive, no matter what life puts you through." This is an answer that, at the time, I had started to lose sight of. I was at a point where I started to care less and less if I died - I almost welcomed it. Watching this show helped pull me back.

Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, this video is my message to you - if you are struggling the same way I had been, fight back! Remember that you are not alone, and do not be afraid to turn to those around you for help. No matter what you are facing, we can fight our way out this corner together.

Stand and Fight Forever!

To be honest, I'm not into AMV much. I just find most of them either poorly edited with random scenes or have some horribly unfitting music.

But this, I have to say, it's very excellent. You convey the message of the lyrics in a montage of fitting scenes and the editing complements the music very much. I actually got goosebumps from this. Kudos to you, sire.

That is exactly what I was aiming for - harmony between the lyrics and what's happening on screen in such a way that even someone who hasn't seen the show can get something out of it. Sounds like I succeeded.

Holyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

In all honesty this is one of the AMVs I've ever seen! My god the timing you got with the lyrics and lip flaps was perfect! That must've taken quite some time! And the choice of lyrics you went with for those specific moments were damn fine choices as well!

Trust me, you have!

And the overall message, oh god the overall message! UPS is the ideal anime for this type of thing and one can never go wrong with Skillet!

Man, I'm honored by the fact you included my name at the end. As friend you left a profound impact on me too! The camaraderie of having been stuck between a rock and hard place can really bring friends together. You've helped with me not losing sight of the important things in life!

Yer awesome!

@Sui: So much praise!

I-it's not like I made it for you or anything. B-baka...

Nevermind that the end of the video kind of says otherwise.

I really, really like it.

It's beautiful man.

I think it conveyed its message really well.

I like how you picked scenes that fit the lyrics really well or have a double meaning to those that have seen the series, and because of that fit the lyrics really well as well.

The lipsynching is really nice, but I'm somehow still not used to Howard singing metal hehehehe. xD

You've improved a lot since last time.

Aaaand now I feel like making AMV's again as well...

I honestly don't think it's that good, really. There are plenty of AMVs way better than this. This still classifies as amateur. There's so many ways I could have made it better, but I stuck with what I felt were my strengths - timing, lip sync, and lyric sync (matching visuals to lyrics). I could have used more digital effects and fancy transitions but I didn't. When I think about it though, being too fancy would have drowned out what I was trying to say with it anyway.

There are two moments linked with making this AMV that stand out for me. The first, was working on the first chorus. I was setting up the scenes of Luna trapped on the island to it when I put the scene with it zooming out on her waving at the ship at "forever" in the "stand and fight forever" part. I played back the preview at that point and I started shaking it affected me so much. Because it fit so well - I knew everything Luna had just been through. The beginnings of starvation, and the much faster approaching threat of death by dehydration. And at that moment, not only had it just rained (which I ultimately didn't use any footage of but had experimented with), giving her much needed water, but her friends finally arrive on that boat. Which says, in a way, "f*** you, world! I'm gonna live! I'm gonna stand a fight forever!"

It was that thought process that led to the title of the AMV.

The second moment is when I was doing my favorite part of the lyrics during the second verse:

This is how it feels when you take your life back!
This is how it feels when you finally fight back!
When life pushes me, I push harder!
What doesn't kill me, makes me stronger!

I was playing that back over and over and over again after finishing the scene, mesmerized by the timing of Luna sliding to the door, turning around and slamming it shut, to the beat. Not to mention Kaoru spinning a knife and throwing it, also to the beat. I was like, sitting there entranced by what I had done.

I lol'd.

I was glad to see this posted a few days ago. I've always enjoyed AMVs since I first came across them in 2007-ish - the mixture of anime I love combined with exciting/melancholic/romantic/etc music is an appealing enough one that even the most poorly done ones out there are still great ways to pass the time - though I've never watched very many of them for whatever reason, maybe a few dozen or so. This is definitely one of the most well-composed AMVs I've ever watched. It's always a nice little treat whenever the lyrics of a song match up with the on-screen action (and in the standard, average AMV this is comparatively rare, with the chosen scenes usually just reflecting the overall mood of the song rather than specific lyrics), and in this one right here literally every single lyric is designed to match up with what's being shown. The AMV comes off feeling extremely polished and intelligently scripted as a result, and it makes it just that much easier to be swept away by the message conveyed by the song and the video. I'm also glad that 'Stand and Fight Forever' was used for this one as well. Somehow I got the impression that a different song was going to be used (I'm not sure why I thought that), but it's pretty hard to be more badass than this song right here, honestly.

Next month marks the seven year anniversary of my viewing of Mujin Wakusei Survive (I finished the series around that Christmas - no idea why it took an entire two months to finish a series as awesome as this, but yeah), and it's kind of remarkable just how much of this show I remember despite watching it such a long time ago. Pretty much the only thing I don't have any memory of at all is that giant weasel monster at about 3:05. Otherwise this is a nice nostalgia trip that digs up a lot of things that I'd otherwise forgotten about, such as the ship teasing between Howard and Sharla that became so prominent during the late series.

Great work, and I hope that AMV community you posted it to responds as positively as the four of us have.

Just to clarify, the name of the song is "Not Gonna Die", while the name I gave the AMV is "Stand and Fight Forever", which I took straight out of the lyrics.

I did have another song idea but I didn't use it for multiple reasons: I had already started with this one, "Not Gonna Die" lent itself better to the action scenes, and I would have had a harder time picking scenes that fit with the other song as I didn't have nearly as many ideas (and still don't).

I still have ideas I could share, as well as which song that was, but if I'm gonna talk about that it'd be privately, just in case I actually do make the AMV in the future (it'd be stupid to make it right now though as I just made an AMV with the same anime and same general message.)
