So this section seems fairly dead! I figured a general-purpose thread might be nice to liven things up here.

What live music have y'all seen lately? How was it, any new bands or ensembles you've discovered, any tours or festivals or other live events we should know about?

I recently went to the Baroque Orchestra concert at McGill University here in Montréal. I hadn't known McGill had such a specialised orchestra! (Then again, they have a pretty strong classically oriented music program, so perhaps it shouldn't be such a surprise.) They played an excellent selection of music from some lesser-known German and English composers, complete with harpsichord and historically accurate interpretations, conducting (first violin or the harpsichordist gave cues), instruments and technique (although I have to say violin without chin/shoulder rest and cello without endpin look very uncomfortable!).

They brought in a choir group for the last piece, which was a piece written for Queen Anne's ... birthday, I think? And I really, really do not want to hear the words lasting peace on Earth even one more time. We got it already, Queen Anne or the lyricist was obsessed with peace or something. We don't need to hear it over and over and over again fifty times spread out throughout five movements. <_>

Or perhaps baroque music isn't much y'all's thing, though. Well anyway.

As for you prog rock/metal folk—

Haken are touring the US and Canada in April and May.

Rush are also touring the US and Canada around June (not sure what their US schedule is).

Thought you ought to know, assuming we still have prog fans lurking around here. ;P

I went to A New World: Intimate Music from Final Fantasy a couple weeks ago. It was every bit as awesome as two Distant Worlds concerts I went to.

I went to see my first live gig ever last December, and it was pretty cool. It was far from your typical gig though- the artist was a relatively underground rapper, so the venue was smaller than usual too. I didn't dislike it though, it had a far more private feeling to it with only 50 or so people there.

I also briefly considered going to see this one tribute event to The Beatles in my city, but I would have had to get a ticket well in advance, unfortunately... But maybe some day I will get to go to more concerts, who knows. I'm still kicking myself for missing Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 2012 when they were in Finland, asfjkl.

Just got back from Coachella.

Saw a few bands I SORTA knew, like the Alabama Shakes and Charles Bradley. And some I knew a LITTLE better like Belle & Sebastian ... but I mostly had a great time at stuff I and everybody knew like AC/DC & Bad Religion. Shiiiiit, I was surprised at how many were excited to see Steely Dan.

I got sunburn to hell, drunk all the time and my feet are swollen like they were stung by beedrills... So, all in all, good times. Be funner if I were a robot and couldn't feel pain. THEN at least I'd give a shit about all the techno and rave music I avoided.
