Just after I decided to focus on getting a PS4 so I don't get left in the dust, ArcSys goes and reveals this. Now I don't have to worry about the PS4's limited userbase getting in the way of the next best fighting game ever! It's a shame that I'll have to put off Chrono Phantasma for even longer, but ASW made some seriously stupid decisions with releases for the series. Hell, maybe it'll get a PS4 port like they wanted to do, with cross-play and further invalidate my need to get a PS3...f***.
Honestly, Taiyz, you were the first person I thought of when I read that announcement. You will probably be able to count the number of games that do it on one hand (or maybe not, depending on how long the PS3's legs will turn out to be), but nice for Sony to give the option.

Yeah, I mean, any cross-play is better than no cross-play. I'm a huge fan of Sony's decision to do all this cross-* stuff.
I will admit, it boggles my mind that Portal 2 has been the only Steam crossplay game so far, but just imagine what the future could hold (especially now that fighting game devs are bringing quality PC ports out.)

It makes perfect sense. Dizzy's superhuman and matured quickly, she's basically the opposite of that 1000-year-old dragon girl from Fire Emblem Awakening.
There are only about twelve characters right now, I think. Two of which are new to Xrd, although Sin was only playable in Guilty Gear 2 which was an action game/MOBA hybrid and Ramletherl or whatever is technically an alternate version of GG2's Valentine. Bedman's the only truly new character.
Basically the same roster size as the first BlazBlue. They've gone on record stating that they want their cast to be as diverse as possible, hence why characters like Bridget and Dizzy are not yet playable despite leading popularity polls.

My comment had nothing to do with his growth rate and everything to do with how little he's like either of his parents! Â Â

I shouldn't be surprised, particularly after Aksy took like five games to polish and update Guilty Gear X2 to a sheen.

Oh, well that's anime. Sin is THE rebellious teenager type, he doesn't like papa Ky for some reason or another. Yuri Lowenthal is kind of the perfect voice actor for him >_>
I'm actually kind of curious. Guilty Gear's the only fighting game I can think of featuring betrothed characters...Like, Slayer's got a wife, and Ky and Dizzy had a kid! I wonder if there are others? I know there are some JRPGs like that, where you get a party member that is the child of previous party members (FFV the After Years,) or certain characters hitch after the game (like Lulu and Wakka which still disturbs me.) The only other fighting game I can think of is Sophitia and Hilde in Soul Calibur (I don't think Hilde had kids in SCIV.)
But it's fucking rare.

Eh. I wouldn't say ArcSystemWorks really intended to do that. They signed a bad deal with Sega and Sega owned Guilty Gear for probably half of the franchise's life span, and would only allow ArcSystemWorks to do small updates to their game, as far as we're aware. Guilty Gear 2 only featured Ky and Sol because ArcSystemWorks could literally only afford to buy back the name and those two characters at that time, apparently. I don't know if Dizzy's name is actually mentioned for this reason, she's called The Maiden of the Grove.
Personally I feel that fighting game updates are a major mixed bag. Not all updates are improvements, I personally preferred Calamity Trigger to Continuum Shift.
I cannot think of any, though the only fighting game lores I have even the faintest knowledge of are Guilty Gear, Soul Calibur, and Street Fighter (which we all know is negative on that).

I knew they were involved with Sega at some point, I didn't know how big their hand it in was. So was Sega blocking them from making true sequels? Did Sega had so little confidence in the brand that they only allowed tweaked version to save a buck, and Aksy complied because they had to make money somehow? They had to buy the I.P. back bit by bit? Painful. Â Â

My understanding is that Sega didn't want to risk the brand's reputation.
They were kind of right, considering that Guilty Gear 2 was a very bizarre game, it was basically a MOBA before the MOBA label was even created by Riot Studios (it had the concepts of playing as heroes amongst AI minions, building up your fighting strength through defeating said minions, and lanes to traverse the map to the enemy's base,) and its combat system was comparable to action games like Devil May Cry, so it really didn't appeal to anybody, it was just a mishmash of stuff that didn't fit with the franchise. It also had poor visual and sound design, it definitely took ASW a while to get good at 3D.
I don't think that Guilty Gear Xrd would exist had BlazBlue not given them the money to resurrect the series and prove what people want from ASW.

Ah, that was the piece I was missing in my thought process- I had ignored (and at this point, forgotten) Guilty Gear 2 entirely as this weird anomaly Ark System Works threw out to experiment for no particularly good reason like Japanese developers occasionally, do and expected it would be considered as such. I guess Ark meant to do more with it and Sega saw the writing on the wall and stopped the bleeding stopped the bleeding. Also explains this stuff in Xrd I genuinely knew nothing about. But would never claim to be a super serous series aficionado... although looking up Overture again for the first time in a while, a Guilty Gear Devil May Cry would be delicious if that series level of precision would be the aim.

Holy shit! That's an awesome figure. Even the game's figures look incredible.
Note that there are two versions of this figure, an AmiAmi version that comes with Sol's old sword, and the regular version that comes with his new one. I wonder if you'll be able to switch between them in-game.

Her fighting style sounds up my alley, I keep meaning to try gunner characters in fighting games, but the only ones I've been able to try have been Noel (with her weird fixed-distance explosions which don't really count) and that Melty Blood chick whose gun is more of a support weapon (I need to get around to Himeki Luna in Vanguard Princess.)
I'm keeping my options open because I never had a real Guilty Gear main; so far she and Sin are my most likely options. Maybe I-No and Millia too.

The LE for either console is now available at Gamestop.com, where Canadians can order in case we never get it (you should be able to cancel if you can order at a Canadian retailer later, but with Aksys...Who knows.)
If you're not starting with the JP version, prepare to get your anus torn open.

Not truly complete because a lot of these have custom dialogue, or at least fully animated reactions to what's going on.
Elphelt is totes adorbs but a lot of these are fantastic, I can't wait to see the individual reactions to May's and Faust's IKs.
Oh and more importantly, unfortunately the LE will be delayed by 1-2 weeks due to strikes in either Aksys' area or at least wherever parts of the the LE are being fabricated. I probably should've changed my pre-order location to EB Games considering that Amazon.ca is notoriously bad at getting games to you ASAP, but I suppose it doesn't really matter because everybody's gonna be fucked and who knows how close to the years end it'll be before actually shipping. (I wasn't able to get Akiba's Trip until two days after launch and I feel really bad about that.)
