The purpose of this is not to create an actual game,
but simply to be creative and have fun.

How to Participate
Just write.
You can contribute anything you want, be it characters, plot ideas, suggestions about the story, the world, the system, anything at all.
You can write right here in the thread and we can openly discuss everyone's contributions and suggestions.

Tales of Divinia



Religion
As the name implies, religion is an important theme in Tales of Divinia.
The three countries of the world are united under the same religion, which praises many minor deities, but most of all three major ones: The deities of Life, War and Magic.
The Divine Families are three families of people who are said to be direct descendants of the three major deities. Each generation, one of the family heirs will be born with exceptional skills and talents. The War Families' heir will be a natural warrior, blessed with power. The Magic Families' heir will be blessed with a natural link to magical ability and understanding. Finally, the Life Families' heir will be capable of giving and taking life force to/from people and other living beings.
Despite their political and religious position, the divine families have lost some of their nominal influence in recent generations.



The World
The story of Tales of Divinia takes place in a world of three countries, united under a single religion, spread out over three major continents, to the east, the west and the north.


Countries
Politically, the world is separated into three countries, of which each has a guardian deity, as well as two independent regions.

Orbin is a kingdom, stretching across the eastern continent. It is run by the current King and a parliament of nobles. The guardian deity is Ovin, the God of Warriors and his family is revered as the highest noble family after the royals, though they officially have no more rights than the other nobles. Orbin possesses a strong military, though it's forces have not been led into a war for over a hundred years. It's lands are comprised of windy planes and long mountain ranges.

Astea is an empire under their guardian deity, Ydia, the Goddess of Magic. The current Empress herself is a descendant of the Goddess and her family is in full control of the country's laws and government. The nation is prosperous and a long way ahead in regards to research and development. It stretches over the south regions of the western continent, which are mostly comprised of deserts and steppes.

Iodas is a democracy under the guardian deity, Soel, the God of Life. The government consists of an equal number of nobles and commoners, who elect a President every few years. The divine family lives in retreat, away from the big cities, and is rarely heard of. Iodas' lands are lush and green, full of forestry and lakes. They stretch across the northern regions of the west continent. Many caves are found in the mountain ranges to the north-west shore and the mineral reserves are high.

The Great Temple is located on an island in the sea between the western and eastern continents. It is an independent region where violence is prohibited and often international gatherings will take place here. All who live on this island work in and around the temple and are devoutly religious.

The Wildlands are the name given to the regions of the northern continent. This rocky, cold terrain expands into snow fields and glaciers the further you head north. It is home to those who have declared themselves independent from the three nations and their religion. There is no real government, but people watch out for each other and an inofficial militia keeps order.

Artes: almost exclusively combat artes, using his sword and occasional kicks; elemental attributes on some arcane artes; few self-healing or -boosting artes
Appearance:
Body Type: average body type, slightly toned from manual labour and combat training
Hair: light brown, short style, longer in the back, kept in a short low ponytail
Eyes: dark grey
Special Features: /
Clothes: Aaron wears a black shirt and dark pants, dark-brown boots and a short blue coat with a black insignia on the back. He has two belts, one holding his pants, the other crossing his hips, holding the sheath to his sword. He wears a single earring in his left ear, vaguely shaped like tomoe/magatama.
Hometown: a small village located near the capital of Orbin
Personality: Aaron is passionate and strong-headed. He has a very open and carefree attitude, but is also well-behaved and knows to stay out of trouble most of the time. He holds ideals of justice and peace, fighting mostly out of fun, exercise and competition.
Background: Aaron's grandfather was a master of the blade and a celebrated hero. As he retired, he taught his son, Aaron's father, all about his style and his art with the sword. Aaron's father became a well-decorated knight using these skills, but eventually left the military and settled down with his young wife and new-born son.
Growing up, Aaron learned to fight from his father and how to do various chores from his mother. The three of them grew up in peace until Aaron turned 17. That year, his father left again on official decree of the Crown, going back into service. He has rarely visited but written often. Aaron plans to one day set out as well, see the world and accompany his father on his mission.


Name: Veli Mattara
Nickname:
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Fighting Style: Two modes. Two axes gives him a quicker fighting style but he is more open to receive attacks while the ax/shield combo makes him more defense and a bit slower.
Weapon:  double axes or ax/shield combo
Artes: combat artes mostly. Arte to avoid being staggered, only in ax/ax mode. no self-healing
Appearance:
Body Type: tall, but decently muscled. A couple of scars as well.
Hair: dirty-blond hair, usually uncombed and not with a proper cut. Slightly wavy.
Eyes: dark blue, intense.
Special Features: blond stubbles O.O
Clothes: he usually wears dark clothes, greens, browns and blacks. Over that he wears a tunic made from leather which is tied with a belt. He wears one ax on his back one tugged in his belt. On his back he also wears his shield and he has a big piece of fur strapped over his shoulder. And he wears heavy boots.
Hometown: a once prosperous small town on the northern continent that was however overrun by monsters and is nothing more than a ruin now.
Personality: he is quiet doesn't seek contact with people, used to and enjoying the peace and quiet of living away from settlements. But with his friend he is quite cheerful with, can even crack one or the other joke. However he feels powerless, having been unable to rescue those that mattered to him, and this is weighing him down constantly. He cannot appreciate the successes he actually has which makes him a true pessimist. What he needs most of all would be hope and that he forgives himself.
Background: He once led a normal life as the eldest brother of a low scale merchant family (nothing fancy, just local). Then however a horde of monsters invaded this town when he was 12 and he could do nothing to make it stop. He still doesn’t know why these monsters acted so out of habit, flocking together like that and this startles him. Nowadays he is a hunter and skinner, selling monster skins and furs on markets of beasts he hunts and slays. However his mission is to slay monsters, given how he lost almost all of his family and neighbors to a monster attack. He takes money for it when he needs it, but when he had just received payment he does the work for free as well. Generally he doesn't plan too long ahead, given how he knows how quickly life can be over. He is generous and decided to life for the moment.


Name: Aricea Cobalt Lebeus
Nickname: Ari
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Fighting Style: Long-range combat magic, as well as firing magic shots and using kicks in close combat.
Weapon: A set of 4 rings, one worn on each of her index and ring fingers. Magic symbols are crafted into each one. The index finger rings are thicker and are used to fire magic shots by the user pointing her finger like a finger gun. All four rings are used when channelling spells.
Artes: Aricea has a small group of strike artes that involve her shooting and kicking at an enemy and gaining distance. Most of her artes, however, are magic artes, using the elements of fire, lightning, wind and darkness to channel devastating combat spells.
Appearance:
Body Type: Mature, shapely body, average breast size, medium tan skin tone.
Hair: Short white hair.
Eyes: Dark brown eyes. Aricea has somewhat damaged eyesight and requires glasses.
Special Features: Black tattoos of medium opacity on the backs of her hands, depicting magic circles. A single, larger one on her left shoulder blade.
Clothes: Aricea wears dark cargo pants and sturdy, strapped boots. Above the belt line, she wears a simple white short-sleeved shirt and above that a dark-grey long-sleeved coat that reaches down to her knees. She also wears a pair of thin silver-rimmed glasses.
Hometown: Capital of Astea
Personality: Aricea is usually a very collected individual, who allows barely anything to upset or fluster her. She addresses many things with sterile and factual analysis rather than emotionally, but is in no way cold or unapproachable. She prefers to have a personal bond with the people she works or travels with and loves to tease or fluster others for amusement, while keeping her own doubts and worries under wraps.
Background: Aricea Cobalt Lebeus is the daughter of Darenbalt Lebeus, who was a member of the head research team employed by the previous Emperor. Under imperial command, Darenbalt and his colleagues developed technology that was used in war against Iodas and claimed many lives. When the current Empress rebelled and took the throne, peace was achieved and the researchers were sentenced to life in prison due to their involvement. Because of this, Aricea grew up with only her mother and older brother, exposed to everyone's terrifying opinion of her father.
Determined to give her family name a positive context again, she worked hard to study magic and technology to one day become a researcher herself. However, though her talent for magic was high and she proved to be a quick learner, she never finished her studies due to her family's poverties.
Not wanting to burden them any longer, Aricea cut ties and left on a journey, gathering experiences and knowledge wherever she could and earning money and favours for herself all over the world, eventually starting to lose sight of her original goal.

Using something to keep track of characters and maybe other stuff would very much appreciated.
It would make work a lot more convenient.
I would still suggest posting and discussing them here first and after approval they will be saved there.

However, may I ask, how do you make an account there?
And would it work for several people viewing the same characters?

I LOVE IT

okay. so i have two characters that fit so nicely in here!!!

one is Aammali. i created her as a summon spirit that can freely manipulate matter making her a magic wielder and a healer. but she despises fighting. if it isn't overbearing the plot i would actually suggest that she is the hidden daughter of Iodas and Estea. she could appear human and all even, finding out about her power bit by bit. i'll write up a sheet if you like

my second OC is a warrior that could be part of the militia in the north. no magic, only guts and yielding weapons. he is pretty cold though, out to hunt monsters. he is a skinner too, so all in all pretty skilled in manual labor.

First of, thank you for your interest!

Regarding your characters:

I'd put Aammali on hold for now. I don't know where summon spirits fit into this yet, though I do plan to include them eventually. They might be related to the Gods, or be a scientific creation of mana, those are two ideas I have so far.
But for the sake of backstory and such, maybe we should revisit this character once the role of summon spirits is secure.

The warrior, however, is perfect!
He sounds exactly like what I imagine a party member from the Wildlands to be like!
It would be great if you could write up a sheet, using the points I used for Aaron,
no pressure though and no need to fill out everything right away,
there's always time to add stuff later.

i have an idea how you could bring in spirits. i have them in another forum as sentient energy that formed from great natural events. Great Spirits only arise from huge events so there are very few. but there are many many minor spirits. but their strength is directly linked to the event that created them.
a minor spirit could even be a party member too Smile
if oyu like the idea of it. it is different from the other tales games, but i love it XD

she uses a bow and her spirits to combo attack

her personality is very cold. she is bitter about being left alone when she became friends with her spirits. but she rather stays with them then the race that abandoned her.

Again, super interesting idea, I love it.
But same problem with the summon spirits, as long as that isn't secured, we should put it on hold.



I would also like to not flood this with characters yet, especially if they are all meant to be party members.
Just in case more people eventually show interest and want to contribute as well,
it would be bad if we ended up with 10+ party members.

I was going to suggest that eventually, yes.
We really don't have any villains yet, though I have some things in mind for that.
So, yes, character ideas can always be re-purposed as villains or antagonists.

so do you want me to write her as a turned character? one that lost hope and hence embraced darkness? she could work as a minor antagonist

im new to this, but i always liked reading this kind of project, even back in the old tsf. too much a lurker to join before, tho.


Name: Aman Lyman
Nickname: Man
Age: 41
Gender: Man

Fighting Style: Man talks with his fists. Well, with other men and beasts at least; domestic violence, ntr and rape are severely scrutinized by Man, and the perpetrator will be acquainted with Man's fist most immediately. Also, Man can even conjure up beast to talk with other beast, albeit in the form of energy blast. And by talking, I meant that Man is beating the shit out of it.

Man punches, grapples and throws while flexing his muscles and drenched in his manly sweats. When he finished doing so (usually after breaking most of their bones, or at least the whole set of ribs), Man pats the other man's back (or punches him in the face, I dunno), healing them and brings them to a nearby bar (or his bar) for a booze.

Weapon: Fist, Healing/Support Magic and Energy Techniques

Artes: Synergy of 'mano a mano' close combat techniques and energy blast taking the form of various wildlife for ranged and multiple enemies. He punches out lions (Lion's Howl/Beast), bulls(Charging Bull), tigers(Pouncing Tiger), bisons(...umm none yet), eagles(Shining Eagle), elephants(Terra Tusk Strike), bears(Bear Claw Strike), wolves(Wolf Strike), and even mythical creatures such as cerberus(Cerberus Strike). Not content with simply knocking them down, Man grapples and throws his opponents into submission with a variety of throwing techniques including but not limited to Writhing Demon, Ogre Drop, Serpent Strangle, Overlord Surge and Lord of Creation.

Man lacks the aptitude for attacking magics due to his inability to ask, or even acknowledge the existence, of intangible beings like spirits to help him. Even his incantation for healing and support magics is of the unorthodox kind; "Holy power, come to me"? "Imbue the light of life"? Nay, Man simply shouts "Heal up brah! First Aid", lo and behold, his TP/CC/EBG is converted into HP for healing. Sometimes though, healing magics don't have that extra oomph in speed (and impact), so Man sometimes opts to just punch his ally's face with a quick and dirty Nice Aid Smash (and its variant).

Appearance:
Body Type: Irresistibly buff with undeniably glistening biceps. Man has a potbelly however, not that it's a negative trait whatsoever since it just goes to prove that his wife takes a good care of him as he eats, drinks and sleeps as a man should. He stands at about 182cm (that's ~5'12", you imperial snob you), and weighs at about 100kg (~220lbs). Body Mass Index categorized Man as being obese, but who cares.
Hair: Man doesn't need any hair.
Eyes: Man has sanpaku eyes with iris in the color of dark brown.
Special Features: Man has a magnificent beard in the style of 'Olde English', emphasizing his manly and rugged look. It can be seen that Man takes a really good care for his facial hair from the glossiness of the black beard, probably lamenting his loss over his other hair. Wait no, Man doesn't need his other hair.

First of, thank you for weighing in, Cat.

Secondly, I love Man! He sounds like an amazing character to have around!

Thirdly, I think it's time we get some female characters. If we have 6 party members, 3 should be girls, but if we get one more guy we can also have 7 or 8 members overall.

Special Features: Black tattoos of medium opacity on the backs of her hands, depicting magic circles. A single, larger one on her left shoulder blade.
Clothes: Aricea wears dark cargo pants and sturdy, strapped boots. Above the belt line, she wears a simple white short-sleeved shirt and above that a dark-grey long-sleeved coat that reaches down to her knees. She also wears a pair of thin silver-rimmed glasses.
Hometown: Capital of Astea
Personality: Aricea is usually a very collected individual, who allows barely anything to upset or fluster her. She addresses many things with sterile and factual analysis rather than emotionally, but is in no way cold or unapproachable. She prefers to have a personal bond with the people she works or travels with and loves to tease or fluster others for amusement, while keeping her own doubts and worries under wraps.
Background: Aricea Cobalt Lebeus is the daughter of Darenbalt Lebeus, who was a member of the head research team employed by the previous Emperor. Under imperial command, Darenbalt and his colleagues developed technology that was used in war against Iodas and claimed many lives. When the current Empress rebelled and took the throne, peace was achieved and the researchers were sentenced to life in prison due to their involvement. Because of this, Aricea grew up with only her mother and older brother, exposed to everyone's terrifying opinion of her father.
Determined to give her family name a positive context again, she worked hard to study magic and technology to one day become a researcher herself. However, though her talent for magic was high and she proved to be a quick learner, she never finished her studies due to her family's poverties.
Not wanting to burden them any longer, Aricea cut ties and left on a journey, gathering experiences and knowledge wherever she could and earning money and favours for herself all over the world, eventually starting to lose sight of her original goal.
