Mass Effect save transfer/character creation question (answered)

Hey so recently I've been thinking that I might get Mass Effect if it comes to the PS4, but what I'm curious about is character creation, or rather, the fact that I don't really want to create a character. I really like the female Shepherd from ME3, but unless they change things in that potential trilogy release, you obviously can't pick her to play through the whole franchise. I'm curious, when you load your save from the previous Mass Effect, do you have the option of leaving behind your old character model in favour of a new one, so you can just pick the new default? Or what?

You can keep your old appearance, make a new appearance, or the use the new default.
