I don't get it. I figured that I would have all 288 figurines, but then the PS3 version says I have 292. Is there something I'm missing here. How many figurines are there in the PS2 version?

There are 9 more figurines than in the GC version. These figurines are of the party's PS2 exclusive costume titles. I believe they require Super Pellets and Rare Pellets to make.

Well I have 292 figurines, that mean's I need five more. Let's see there's Swimsuit Regal, Swimsuit Zelos, Presea Snowsuit, Lloyd Pirate and Zelos Groupie 3, if there is one.
