Persona 4 Arena Thread

I figured it might be a good idea to make a Persona 4 Arena thread, especially with the sequel coming out in a few months. Does anyone play Persona 4 Arena? If so, which characters do you like to use?

I am finally getting around to finishing up the story with everyone in P4A, but like almost every fighting game I play, I can't find a character that I really feel comfortable with. Does anyone else ever have this problem?

I don't play competitively (case in point, I can't even beat Yosuke in Score Attack), but Yukiko, Naoto, and Teddie are my favs in terms of playstyle <3

And I'm definitely adding Rise to my favs even if I don't know her playstyle yet

She's probably going to play like Amy 3rd job in GC. I'm more interested in how she'll use Himiko in battle.

I couldn't get comfortable with Persona 4 Arena in general. I didn't like how Personas were implemented as kind of a replacement for Guilty Gear's slash attacks, but had health and positioning requirements comparable to Nirvana in BlazBlue. It just felt overly complicated for something that should've been really straightforward.

Really I just wanted them to use BlazBlue's control scheme, and either have one dedicated Persona move button, like the Drive button, or simply involve the Personas' sprites in special move animations and not have health for them.

And honestly I'm at a point where I don't really know what kind of playstyle entices me anymore, I didn't like playing as anybody in P4A, but that was mostly because of the issue mentioned above.

I finally finished the story with everyone today. Man was that monotonous at the end. Anyway, I have a problem finding a character that works for me in most fighting games. The only character I ever have felt is my style is Hakumen.

I agree with Taiyz as to how I hoped the battle system would be. In the sequel, I know that some characters are going to have more than 4 persona cards and some are going to have less, so maybe there will be a tweak in the battle system. I think there will even be a character who fights without using a Persona (this information is coming from Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt).

This is literally two (chronological) games since Persona 4. There was the original game, the anime series, Persona 4 Golden, giving you three ways to experience the original story in two different formats, and then Persona 4 Arena. This is a sequel game to a sequel of the original. It's like complaining that Star Wars Episode 6 spoils Darth Vader's identity in Episode 3.

I'm excluding Persona Q because Ultimax came out in Japan first, even though Persona Q will be released across the world before Adachi is even playable...I think.

Persona Q is not even close to being canon anyways.

The very first scene of the P3 side implies memory wipe at the end of the game. ********, but at least plausible explanation.

Persona 3 and 4. What limited edition/pre-order swag came with them?

P3 and P3 Fes came with an artbook and an outerbox right? Was the swag identical, or did the Fes edition come with different boxart or extra art in the book?

Persona 4 had some kind of pre-order thing, and then there was an extra swag pack you could order via Amazon, right? What was the swag included with the actual game?

Finally, what swag did Persona 4 Golden come with at launch?

I'm basically trying to complete a collection here. I got P3 at launch with everything, but was given P3 Fes later, used but with the game, manual and standard PS2 game case. I have Persona 4 brand new, but I don't think I got any goodies with it, and I'm positive that I didn't get the extra swag pack.

I remember my friend posting a P4 shirt, OST, game, Teddie plush(ugly), artbook and a poster with all the cut-ins a while back on her facebook but she got them from a site similar to eBay here in Brazil.

From what I was able to discern, it does appear that Fes only had a standard edition, and possibly sellers on Amazon and otherwise simply fucked up and are in fact selling the original version. Like so:

My copy of P4 came with a bonus soundtrack disc, so I think I have the best possible versions of vanilla P3 and P4, and the only version of FES.

Okay so that's fine, nothing I'm particularly torn about like a soundtrack CD, so I can just pick up a cheap copy whenever. I figured I should play P4 Golden because Marie is canonical. Does Persona 4 Arena hint at whether the female protagonist is non-canon or anything? (For example, if anybody refers to Makoto, do they say "him," or are they super vague and say "that person"?) Does P3P have additional content for the male route, or is it basically the same apart from navigation and gameplay changes?

No, the male protagonist is the canon.

It's the same, HOWEVER I recommend playing the PSP version because of the battle system and the new navigation system really helps cutting gameplay time.
