Senran Kagura thread

So I noticed that some of you play these games (at least the idol contingent) and figured we should have a central thread.

Some exciting stuff this year with Deep Crimson having campaign co-op, Ayane guesting in Estival Versus and Homura appearing in Nitroplus Blasterz...What are you guys most excited for, and who is your Kaguraifu? (Also feel free to mention your favourite rep from each team.)

Just like with Love Live! let's make a game out of guessing mine.

Kaguraifu is Yumi and Hikage. Can't decide which I prefer more. Miyabi is badass too. Noooooooooooo

Honestly, this series put me off cause of two things: 1.) The fanservice and 2.) Xseed getting these games out faster than Trails. After playing Burst however, I got a fun action beat em up that aside from the fanservice, has some decent characters and personalities. My mind was open. Some of these girls have some pretty dark backstories, and it really contrasts against the fanservice.

Second reason was personal but now XSeed should be happy my money is going to them now.

Also, knowing you liking Nozomi doesn't help, since the SK girls are really well-endowed...We need more clues Taiyz! My guess would be Yagyu, Katsuragi, or Haruka!

I'll provide confirmations as you guys guess. Haruka and Katsuragi are actually very good guesses if you used Nozomi as your example, and when I first got into the series I thought Kat would be my favourite, but Katsuragi's personality is very different from Nozomi, being more of a flirty ditz. Haruka's definitely got the older sister aspect down, but I'm not a fan of her fighting style or the obsession with puppets/enslaving people. They are still two of my favourite characters though!

Here's another hint. The character has two design aspects, one of which I'm known (or should be known by now) for liking, one of which I have always been a huge fan of but have never really talked about.

And yes, kind of like how Onechanbara has deceptively skillful and rhythmic gameplay, Senran Kagura actually has a pretty great narrative, it's got a decent plot and great backstories to go with your plot and backstories. What's kind of disappointing is that there is a card game like Cinderella Girls, and while a couple of those gals are making their way into the next games, I feel like they might be included out of obligation and might lack interesting backstories, but we'll see. Estival Versus has a cool storyline for bringing back dead characters (hopefully it's permanent, it would be too sad if it weren't) and Deep Crimson has giant monster fights, so those are more new things to look forward to.

Falcom also likes Ryobi and Ikaruga, however Yumi is best.

Ikaruga was my favourite for a while, she is and has always been my favourite Hanzo Academy rep.

While you didn't get what I was talking about (I'm not sure where you pulled the word Crimson from,) you did get there. It is Homura. What I was referring to is that she's a tomboy, something I should be known for liking but I feel has probably been buried under my interest in traps, and one of her defining features is her super amazing tanlines which I don't really talk about because you don't really fit that into a conversation naturally.

Another hint I could have given is that she's also a meat maniac like Nozomi, but I don't know if that's something they really emphasize in Love Live!

But you guys have one more thing to guess...My favourite Hebijo rep. I'm gonna spoil the Gessen guess and say that I don't really have a favourite out of them, but it would be between Yumi and Yozakura if I had to choose. Kakigori is pretty great so Yumi definitely gets points for that. Interestingly enough, Yumi is consistently ranked the favourite Senran Kagura character in popularity polls. I guess Japan's always been a fan of more demure/calm girls than firecrackers.

Well when you said two designs, I basically first thought of Homura having her Shinobi form, and then her Crimson form. Crimson Homura is super op in Burst O_O

Homura's group is called Crimson Squad, and it's an official term. I realize you probably haven't unlocked them yet in Shinovi Versus.

I also said "design aspects," as in personality traits/charm points but I didn't want to hint too closely...It got you there anyway though. I suppose you would've either guessed her or Ryobi with your line of thought.

And no, Miyabi isn't correct actually, she's too Final Fantasy for me. I haven't given any hints for Hebijo.

Well then you're highly incorrect because it is Ryouna. I'll admit that this seems unusual for me but it would also be difficult to provide a hint without giving it away.

Ryona is prob my least favorite Senran character *shrugs*
Dislike her personality, outfit, and play style.

Normally I wouldn't like a character like Ryouna who basically embodies a big running gag, but her over the top attitude and ridiculousness is endearing. I highly recommend playing her Bon Appetit! story because her big dream is hilariously weird (and also kinda hot I dunno.)

So basically, when I first got into the series I thought Katsuragi would be my favourite, but it ended up being Ikaruga (though Kat is still my second Hanzo favourite.) Homura didn't make a good first impression in the anime, being evil just 'cuz, so it took me a while to come around, Haruka was my favourite from OG Hebijo just because of her no-cares-in-the-world flirtatious attitude...Ryouna really took me by surprise and she was actually my favourite character until I realized how totes adorbs Homura can be (also Homura's alt costumes are so delicious, dat "Dancer" outfit is like just waiting for the best wet t-shirt contest ever, and dat Cheongsam is as scrumptious as the food in Bon Appetit! Okay I'm getting a little creepy, I get it.) The move from Hebijo to Crimson Squad is definitely a good thing, it always felt weird that Homura's group was "evil" and I appreciate that Deep Crimson is basically a co-op game between Hanzo and Crimson. Ryouna's story in Bon Appetit! definitely sold me on the character (even though Haruka's story is similarly fantastic.)

So I discovered that in Bon Appetit, if you go to the Dressing Room, select a character and highlight the lingerie option (not sure if this step is required, please help me confirm by highlighting Outfit instead and trying this,) press square to enter the camera mode, zoom in all the way and rotate the camera so you can see their butt, you unlock their personal favourite lingerie for use with all characters.

Don't ask how I discovered that. Extensive research, you see.



I also discovered that Asuka's Apron is customized for every character so that their name is printed on it in Romaji...I wonder if you can unlock the aprons as accessories because that forces you to use Asuka's shinobi transformation outfit if you want to use her apron. Something curious is that, even though the Live Area screen shows Miyabi with a black cheongsam, I only have unlocked Homura's red one, and a blue alternative.

Kinda want Bon Apetit DLC for Yumi :/

What do you mean? She's playable through the Gessen x Hebijo pack.

Don't you have you pay for that?

I believe you do have to pay for the Gessen and Hebijo expansion.

Yeah it's like $15, same price as the core game, but you get the game's soundtrack too which is an app on your Vita that downloads the files to your Music app and then you can even transfer them to your PC!

I just found this, it was posted on Kenichiro Takaki's Twitter. I think you know how I feel about this.

(PS I find it cool how, while Homura's favourite food is "Japanese food," compared to Ikaruga's "Japanese cuisine," Homura also has a secondary favourite food that is the NIKU MATSURI/CARNIVORE'S CARNIVAL!)

So this is cool, I didn't realize it but they're adding new characters via DLC to Estival Versus, I mean, I think I read about that in an interview with Takaki but I didn't really acknowledge the fact until now. It's disappointing that they're not giving her a character arc though...Hopefully they can patch one in later. This is kinda what I meant by being worried about the New Wave characters not getting good backgrounds.

So, The King of Fighters XIII had ~3 characters with removable costume pieces. Persona 4 Arena had glasses and DLC glasses you could equip...

Examu has just passed into legend.

This might be one of the coolest cameos I've ever seen. The amount of detail that went into her character model and fighting style is amazing!

Oh and Deep Crimson is dated for September 15th.

Why is Deep Crimson physical 65 after taxes in Canada??? And i have to buy another memory card if I go for digital.

Finally got around almost finishing Shinovi Versus. Only have the Crimson Squad side stories left, and Rin and Daidojotaro left if I ever buy them. Crimson Squad's story was the best and had the most logical ending, but I read that Takaki says Gessen is canon...

Excited for Estival Versus and hopefully we get a regular edition. The Canadian price is hurtful to a student's wallet haha.
