| Yes, great idea to make the puzzles easier for some people and more difficult and challenging for others. They made the puzzles optional in Legendia. I think they should for all the Tales games. I like challenges too but I agree with Marissa in that to constantly look at a walkthrough for puzzles is kind of ridiculous. I had to watch some videos on youtube on how to solve puzzles too. Games should be fun, not a chore. Sometimes puzzles are fun but not puzzles like the one in Ymir Forest. Puzzles should be a little challenging, fun, unique, and creative. Which Golden Sun is the best game in terms of RPG puzzles.
I was surprised by the lack of puzzles in Xillia, do you at least get the sorceror's ring at some point?

This way they could use difficult puzzles, too. IIrc, they did something like that in ToP as well. In Dhaos' castle when you have to time your movement with Arche? After failing to many times on it Klarth and Mint will do it for you.

| I like the idea of a puzzle difficulty slider (though linking it to the battle difficulty - easy, normal, moderate, hard, mania, unknown might be a bad idea. Unknown puzzles though....) - swordandshield wrote:

Nnnnnnnope. - Zwei.0 wrote:

I believe the same thing happens with the Thoda Geyser puzzle in Symphonia should you fail that. You get saved by the person you have the highest affinity with as well, further boosting your afinity with said person. Having characters solve the puzzles for you is a great idea, but I would put a little twist on it: Make it optional. If you fail a couple of times and then the character automatically take over, even if you still want to try it yourself, you're basically screwed. I think there should be more puzzles in Tales Games, and most of them should have easier and harder solutions. Easier ones allow you to continue the story, while harder ones allow you to also get added bonusses (items, equipment, gald, or artes and skills depending on where the puzzles are). However, at the same time the puzzles should not be mandatory for the player. S/he's only one person in the party after all (not really but bear with me). What if a Tales Game had a character in the party who loves solving puzzles and has a knack for them, and they ask you if they can please solve the puzzle for you or you want to do it yourself? And ask again if you fail or want to give up. Maybe on a NG+ they could even solve the puzzle for you and get you all the optional stuff from it, while on the first they can't yet (carry over puzzle experience). Now that I think of it, the solutions of puzzles (their status: solved or unsolved) could even be carried over in the grade shop as well in case you never want to do the puzzles in one of the games again (once is enough).

The only flaw I find in this is when you are already controlling the puzzle loving character. That would be an awkward self-tsukkomi.

| Theor Forest in Abyss was optional, too, after you failed it enough times. Basically you're supposed to be stealthy through the whole thing and not get spotted by the guards, but if you get caught enough times you get the option to just berserk your way through it.
. . . in the end, I always have to berserk my way through it. I'm terribad at stealth missions. xD

I was so happy when they gave me the option to give up. I watched someone else stealth their way through it though, so it can be done. - Zwei.0 wrote:

I think I might have failed this one too, although I'm not as sure about it. If they do put more puzzles in Tales game they should all have the do it for you feature if you fail it enough. (Also, trying to multi-quote on this site is really annoying.)
