So I saw this elsewhere and figured three possible conclusions; either Sony is patently crazy, opening crazy and then adjusting based on interest, or GaiKai server maintenance is really, really expensive. The fact that the streaming of very large games is involved makes the analogy of how much it costs you to physically rent a game not quite fit.

I've wanted to play Gurumin on a big screen for AGES! It's really really fun, guys! One of my favorites from Falcom! GO VOTE!
You'll even get a free copy if you join their group and say you voted yes, but they really didn't need to do that - this game is good enough that it should have been able to pass Greenlight without it. They're also missing out on me purchasing a copy for myself and several friends by doing this.

You could just buy gift copies to pass out to random people.

I know that nothing really will change. But it was just a few years ago though that I discovered Atelier Iris, Ar Tonelico, and Mana Khemia and was like "wow, this company makes awesome games!"
Now they're just a team of a much larger company and their name effectively is gone.
Also, RIP Gust-chan:

Yeah, I mean Atelier games already have have Dynasty Warriors status when it comes to their release schedule, except they have upgraded handheld ports instead of "Xtreme Legends" or tactical titles.
Yeah, but whatever. I'm not even a fan of Screaming Nintendo Guy (too grating imo) and I thought that thread was pretty amazing for the first couple of seconds.

What sucks about Target in Canada is that you can't buy shit from their website. I want the 3DS AR eShop cards but I'm too lazy to go to Target and buy them (they're exclusive to Target for some dumb reason.)
