| Heroes of the Storm is an upcoming video game developed by Blizzard Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, and OS X. The basis of the game is the combination of heroes from Blizzard's Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft franchises. Apparently it'll be free to play, supported by microtransactions (pay to win I guess). Dicuss. Seriously, what is this? I don't have time to research it right now but the name sounds good at least. | |

| It's Blizzard's own take on the MOBA genre. Well, DotA was amazingly popular enough, and the games spawned from the custom map mod has accumulated sizable fanbase, so it's unthinkable that Blizzard, being the developer of the Warcraft III where DotA originates from, is not going to join in the fray. imo though, Blizzard is already too late. DotA2 and LoL (and well HoN too) already have their own devoted fanbase, so unless HotS can do something truly wonderful instead of just latching onto the popularity of its characters, it will have the same fate as Playstation All Stars. btw what happened to Demigods? - Silvendiferous wrote:

If going by the current trend of MOBA games, the microtransactions are mostly going towards cosmetic stuff than actual balance-breaking feature.

| Well, you got to play the game to unlock heroes and skins. To be fair, it's alright if you don't have access to all heroes. In MOBAs, you need to learn heroes slowly.
It's when you try to play the game more seriously that it becomes an issue. In any case, there's usually only a select few heroes that are on the top, so you can just spend your gold on them.

| A lot of people are terrible. It's really easy to play right now because of the average skill level of the players. The focus on objectives and size of the maps are really refreshing and nice and what makes it unique compared to other mobas. However, the characters are all a little stale, most talents are shared between characters and the unique characters like Abather are not good or balanced poorly.
Regardless, the game is still very fun. I definitely don't see it being competitive (or rather, being seen as a serious competitive game by many players) because of how elementary the game is. The focus on objectives does encourage more teamwork so it can have a good competitive following but it will definitely won't get as competitively popular as Dota 2 or League of Legends (or Smite and Infinite Crisis).
Another thing. The game is entirely free to play, everything in the game can be earned through playtime and there's nothing pay to win about this game.
