| Deductively speaking, I would guess Max, but that is based upon the assumption that your friend would let you set up things and be content with being the second player between you two. | |

| So I figured out who to nominate for the Smash Ballot. Shantae. The developers are even on board with it and have created concept art for colour schemes and costumes, and she's already got a voice with Christina Vee. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero/posts/1187315(I don't know if this is Backer-exclusive.) Considering how much love Wayforward's given to Nintendo over the years, I think this has gotta be the number one choice. I might not like a lot of their games, but they are an extremely underappreciated developer who have actually been around since the Gameboy Colour. | |

| What button layouts are all of you using? I can't seem to find one I'm comfortable with at all =/ I'm having some serious issues pressing the right buttons on time. - Bo Staff Katana wrote:

Nice reasoning! But my friend accidentally pressed a button on his controller before I did, and because of that he was player 1. ;)

| I use the gamepad 99% of the time. I have the triggers shield and the L/R buttons grab (this is flipped from default). I also have the X and A buttons jump. I turned off holding up to jump. Y is my special attack and B is my regular attack. It may take a little getting used to if you usually have tapping up jump, but I think it is better this way. This control scheme allows you to execute the up attack without accidently jumping. | |

| I'm just using the default settings for the Gamecube controller. I can't seem to get used to anything else. | |

I disable tap to jump, I use B to jump, Y to attack, A for specials, L and R buttons are unchanged on 3DS and because the game has two jump buttons that's forced to be X. On Wii U I put a second special button on X, and I have it set so that both pairs of shoulder buttons mimic the 3DS version, so shield's on one side, grabs are on the other side of the controller (admittedly the shoulder buttons are not a wise decision.) The right stick I currently have set to smash attacks, but I've heard that setting it to regular attacks is a good idea so that you don't accidentally perform smash attacks or auto combos. Smash attacks make more sense to me though because the Wii U's analog sticks are so imprecise I find it difficult to use the stick to perform regular attacks quickly in sequence. Basically I play Smash Bros. like a character action game.

| Thanks for the info everyone!
I tried a lot of button layouts already, and I have Tap-To-Jump off by default. I can't survive long with it turned on.
I tried setting the C-stick to attack instead of smash. It is a really great idea, and works well.... in some cases. Most of the time, I've found that it doesn't register your input at all...? It's really weird. I've had times where I was mashing the C-stick to the left and held no other buttons, and my character would do absolutely nothing. For now I've set it back to smashes because at least that one doesn't seem to have those same inconsistencies.
I despise the shoulder buttons of the game pad and the GC controllers. There seems to be a bit of a delay between hitting the button and the game registering your action? Even in local games? I'm not sure. The delay seems longer than when the functions I had linked to those buttons are mapped to the x-y-a-b buttons.
Do any of you have the same issues?
Edit:
I never played Brawl, and I used an arcade stick kind of thing for SSB64, which might explain why I am having such difficulties coping with the control scheme. I want to mash buttons with my index, middle and ring finger, not my thumb.

| Double post:
Last saturday I completely had it with SSB because I got my ass handed to me once again by online folks.
It was with reluctance that I played a few matches on sunday with a friend and sort of neighbor of mine (he lives in the next building, not the next house). It went alright, we were actually pretty evenly matched. Finally started to get some of my energy back and my attitude towards the game improved.
Then he picked Greninja and said he wanted to main him. I did the same.
Greninja mirror matches.
Best thing that I've ever experienced in SSBWiiU (no offense meant to all of you, of course).
It was amazing. I think I saved a couple of replays. I'll see if there is some way I can share them.
