| Actually I like the subtitle. Akiba's Trip is very Engrish, if anything it sounds more like a dude named Akiba is going somewhere. It's a very Japanese wordplay. Also it conveys nothing about the actual content of the game. Then again this is all coming from the guy who likes a game subtitled Bikini Samurai Squad/Bikini Zombie Slayers.
Also it leaves things open if they ever decide to localize the original, either with a different subtitle or as "Akiba's Trip."

| Having a subtitle is fine. I just take issue with the fact that originally they're being somewhat cleverly subtle about it being a pervy game (if you move the space you get Akiba Strip) and now it flaunts it instead.
Of course, depending on the level of perviness, I may not even be interested in this. I'm kind of prudish.

| I was just joking on GameFaqs about how so many people wanted Japanese games, and most of us were short-sighted and skipped the memo that that means cheap, particularly "regionally-charged" games that are already taking advantage of PC's being an open platform, rather than high-end retail games. All of my salutes to Capcom (And Falcom!) for whomever proposed their MT Framework engine work the way it did, its absurdly progressive for a Japanese company. Not so much the lack of a Dragon's Dogma port. Also, Titanfall's Xbone resolution conundrum. It makes me laugh. - Prinny wrote:

- Going off rabid Dark Souls fan speculah, Rhea was actually kidnapped and dragged to crystal jail. You know those Balder Knights that conveniently hang out like 10 feet away from her in the chapel? Yeah, it may have been those guys.
Rhea presumably went Hollow when she found out she was the next one in line for Seath's bizarre biology experiments. The squid-ladies that try to escape from the jail are human maidens that Seath injected mutagenic dragon goo into, and Rhea was probably going to turn into one of those. Seath gets a little lonely down in the crystal caves and he's been trying to create the perfect dragon-lady, possibly to be his mate. The squids are failed test subjects. One of the item descriptions (it's for one of the cell keys iirc) actually explains the "failed experiments" part, and there are a couple of non-hostile squids that will start crying in women's voices if you let them live.
Or at least that's what GameFAQs told me. was I close?

| People don't seem to understand that Japan's PC game market is 90% doujin games and visual novels. PCs are generally considered work machines, while consoles are for play. PCs are a great platform for doujin games because of the openness of the platform; distribution isn't regulated, no publisher is needed, and there are a lot of storefronts whether it's a physical sale at a Comiket or a digital download though something like DLsite or the studio's website.
The lack of a Dragon's Dogma port still boggles my mind honestly, but yeah, MT Framework is amazing.

Physical release for 3DS and PS3, and digital-only for WiiU and Vita. That is... incredibly random. I could see making the Sony or Nintendo versions digital-only, or especially the handheld versions as digital-only - as not having to carry around cartridges for portables is a very real benefit of digital distribution. But I just can't quite figure out the logic behind this one. "Which systems should get physical copies of our game? Let's see.. eeny, meeny, miny..."

Release physical on the successful machines, cut your losses while still biting the bullet for the greater good releasing digital-only on the tanking machines. Not much more to say when Namco released DBZ Battle of Z in North America- a wider appreciated property in a presumably more lucrative market- digital only on the Vita. Or it could just be Namco.

| BlazingFiddlesticks is right, but it still sucks considering how shitty the Vita is as a digital platform. An upper limit of 32GB outside of Japan, AND the Vita doesn't have an intuitive save back-up feature like the 3DS so you can't just back-up a digital Vita-only game's save without a PS3, PC or PS+.
Well. I figure I'll end up getting the game on the 3DS considering that nobody owns a fucking Vita (plus the lack of memory issue.) The question is, do I get it on the PS3 in anticipation of the one I still plan on getting, or do I get it on the Wii U which I currently own? I suppose if I got the PS3 version I would have Trophies which would likely be the same list as the Vita version anyway...Plus there's the fact that retail editions of these games become scarce. I was one lucky bastard to get Unlimited Adventure for under a hundred bucks. I really want to be able to play it in HD right away though...

| I hadn't really taken console popularity into consideration. That sort of makes sense then. Except that they bothered porting the game to the tanking systems at all.
Don't get me wrong. It's cool that our WiiU and Vita bros get to play too. But when the game only existed on the 3DS in Japan in the first place, it doesn't seem to make sense financially to even bother.
Edit: in case it isn't clear: I'm not complaining. I'm just kind of baffled. Pleasantly so at that.

| Keep in mind that a big chunk of this is Namco Bandai Europe's doing. For some reason anime games seem to do really well over there because they keep licensing them and giving them retail releases, and for One Piece games in particular, sweet-ass limited editions of the same caliber as the Tales ones that we've gotten recently. Namco Bandai Europe's probably the company funding the port, and America's like, HEY you guys will have functional English versions of these games, let's sell them over here, digitally. Jojo All Stars and that Saint Seiya game probably wouldn't have come out here without Europe stepping up to the plate. I couldn't tell you why One Piece Romance Dawn and Jojo All Stars got limited (and exclusive, EB Games/Gamestop and Amazon respectively) retail releases though. Edit: It's always nice to see officially-recognized OS/console-tan characters. http://www.siliconera.com/2014/03/11/sega-dreamcast-shows-fighting-game-character/ | |
