I don't think it's a question of time (especially since Japanese is usually longer than English in those instances). I'm just sad that they have to go away, but ohwell...

Maybe they really don't include them in introductions, but are still there in the in-game lore.

Here are some Elize and Alvin videos.
Elize is sounding better.

I love the voice direction they're taking Elize's VA in for the sequel.

Now if only we knew who voiced her.

Hasn't only one year passed between X1 and X2, though? Elise sounds like she's sixteen instead of thirteen in this new trailer. =/
I love how exasperated Jude sounds when he says that Alvin is his friend, though. Like, "Seriously, Alvin? We already had an entire game of your nonsense. We're not going through this again."

After listening to Toradora's dub, I'm pretty confident in believing that Elize is voiced by Erika Harlacher. Her character Ami sounds similar to Elize at times.

I seriously read this part like this ^ the first time.
"In what game are Jade and Alvin friends? In what game does Jade have friends at all?"
Was my first reaction.

Well, Elise's grown a lot during that year, so...
More seriously though I think this comes from the fact that the contrast was huge in Japanese because in X1 she sounded very insecure, but by X2 she had gained all the assurance she needed. However, she wasn't voiced the same way in English in the first game (in fact the acting made her sound like her X2 self to my ears), and I guess they still wanted to do a big difference thing... which is how she ends up sounding older. I guess. idk really, it's past midnight and I'm rambling XD

More importantly, Jade's super best friend forever is His Imperial Hotness Emperor Peony IX. He also comes to consider Luke a friend, though Luke doesn't realize it until he's told because Jade "can be a terribly cold person." And now I've made myself sad.

Well, emotionally she has grown a lot, but she sounds physically older to me. Like, most human girls that I know don't have that huge of a vocal shift between sixth and seventh grade (ages 12-13). Elise sounds more like a high school student now, not because of her maturity, but because that's how developed her voice sounds, if that makes any sense at all.
I can see what you mean, though, about them wanting to show the difference--and I agree with you that Elise's voice acting was off during the first part of X1 (I'd say that by the end her character had grown into her voice, but she was definitely too loud in the beginning). It really does put them into a tough spot. I think they might have been better served just altering her dialogue and having the voice actress age up her voice only a bit instead of taking a giant leap, but c'est la vie, what's done is done.
Thinking about it, they might have also wanted to highlight the age gap between Elise and Elle (how old is Elle supposed to be? Eight?), which might be why they felt it important to age up Elise's voice even if it didn't make that much sense. That's just speculation, though.

So Elise is in Xillia 2, what about any other characters from the first game?

The main cast from the first game all return.
And yet Ivar still doesn't get to join the party. Makes me sad man.

Wow, the story continues even beyond the first game, that's interesting. Xillia is the first Tales game to have a sequel.
Lol, I was kinda surprised Ivar didn't join. Instead you have to fight him because of his jealousy towards Jude for being Milla's companion or at least I think that's how it goes.

Nah, it's not. Tales of Destiny has Tales of Destiny 2 in Japan, Tales of Symphonia has Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, and technically Tales of Phantasia is Tales of Symphonia's sequel as well, though it takes place thousands of years later. Xillia 2's not quite the first time Namco touched sequel territory.
(There are also all of the Narikiri Dungeon games for Phantasia, though I'm not even going to try and pretend I can keep those straight. There are also sequel escort titles, such as the Radiant Mythology series . . .)

No, the first Tales game to have a sequel was Tales of Destiny, then Symphonia and later Xillia.

Technically, each entry in the Tales series is a Stand Alone Sequel of the one(s) that precede it.
And if you want to go rreally meta, you could even say that each Tales Of is it's own sequel because of the NG+ feature.
Though to be fair about actual sequels, Destiny 2 is the sequel to Destiny, Symphonia to Phantasia ( a prequel more like ), Dawn of the New World to Symphonia (which by all means should have been a stand alone game about Soltis and Noctis and should not have been tied to Aselia at all) and Graces F's Future Arc to Graces (as a little internal sequel), before Xillia 2 was created as a sequel to Xillia 1.

I love how literally no one cares about Narikiri Dungeon, the sequel to Phantasia.

I mean, I was the very first person to reply to swordandshield about this, and I literally brought up Narikiri Dungeon in my response, so . . .

Wow, so there are quite a few Tales game connections. How is Phantasia related to Symphonia? How do you know? Did Namco say it was connected to it? I mean seems weird since there's no Desians, or anything that was in Symphonia.

Spoilers alert!
To name a few things between Symphonia and Phantasia:
Spoiler:
The starting village in Symphonia is called Iselia, while the main area in Phantasia is called Aselia. The "world"/"planet" returning to the world of Phantasia is called Derris Kharlan, just like the planet Mithos bound to Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, which was meant to return to those worlds in a very long time. Dhaos has Angel Wings akin to those of Mithos.
Mana Cannons, Mana Cannons everywhere.
In both games a central tree fails to provide the world with mana. Said central tree is (heavily implied) to be named Yggdrasill and is guarded by the Summon Spirit Martel.
Cress Alvein's/ Albane's surname has been theorized to come from Irving (Lloyd). Irving - Alvein. Sheena Fujibayashi and Suzu Fujibayashi, both ninjas of a hidden village, not to mention Sheena gets Suzu's outfit as her "successor" title.
And yes, I think it has been mentioned by Namco.
edit: apparently if you check a bookcase in Phantasia in Alvanista castle in the Past, you discover that Aselia has two moons named Teth'Alla and Sylvarant....
Make of that what you will.
edit edit: we forgot Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage you guys...
