plebs dunno how to spell exia/kampfer amazing. or at least star build strike of the fluorescent-caped magnificence Meijin Kawaguchi OO Qan[T] Amazing pls. Feels like Try knows their supporting characters suck (plus, kousaka/lightning gundam is very meh) that they're easing in s1 characters into the plot, with last week meijin stealing good lines. I mean, Nils is pretty weak (as a character) in S1, but I feel giddy seeing him back, that tells a lot of the quality of supporting characters of Try. Shimon Izuna and Gyanko are the only notable characters.

| Another beef so far I have with Try.
I guess the one on one matches (or rather two on one) of first BF allowed more dynamics between Sei and Reiji and their opponents. I mean aside from Gyanko and Shimon, no one else in Try is that memorable or strong.

I like the supporting characters of both seasons quite a lot (except Gyanko, her design seriously gets on my nerves).

| That Chaika ending. WTF just happened? It's a conclusion to be sure, which is a lot better than a "read the manga/LN" non-ending. But the last episode felt rushed and leaves a bunch of its events unexplained, which sucks because I otherwise loved the show and wish it had a solid ending. [spoilerbox="Hitsugi no Chaika Avenging Battle episode 10 SPOILERS"] - Spoiler:
What was the lead up to Toru deciding to form a contract with Frederica? It seemed like a completely random and spur of the moment choice in order to gain the power necessary to beat the Big Bad and end the show quickly but it still wound up not being enough and Chaika had to finish the job. Also WHAT THE f*** HAPPENED TO CHAIKA AT THE END? I assume she's lost all of her memories and she has to start her life over on a clean slate but the show doesn't clarify anything other than that she's still alive, unlike a certain mecha-piloting vampire.

| Well, the main supporting characters of Try are literally Gyanko and Shimon for now. Well there's Sakai too, but he's kinda getting annoying with his attitude, Mao's been teaching lightly lol. Most of the opponents TTF's faced so far felt like one time opponents (Team Free and Science), and Sleggar's team's probably just gonna get more attention now.
First BF's opponents were certainly a tad more memorable imo, Felini, Mao, and Nils. The one time opponents were pretty cool(er) too, like that guy from Thailand and the Renato bros.
But since we're getting to the Nationals in Try, I suspect the opponents/competition will give a lot more impact.

| Hey Cat man, that Sword Skill symbol in episode 24 looked an awful lot like the one at the end of Kirito's swords at the end of Fairy Dance. HMMMM, looks like yellow eye mode indeed allowed him to achieve the impossible at that moment, since they weren't added to ALO until later, then again it could've been a holdover from SAO's code that he just managed to unlock, they never show anybody sharing a Sword Skill in SAO but it probably works the same way I'd imagine.
Also as of a couple days ago I now own all the American SAO blu-rays, cards and all. That includes Extra Edition because RightStuf just seems to ship new releases 0.5-1 month early.

| iunno, although I can't remember which scene in Fairy Dance you're talking about, OSS is pretty much just in Mother Rosario, so it's probably the animators being "hey how should we draw the OSS scroll" "just find some vector sword symbol and put it on a scroll, im pretty sure we still have many unused/one-off assets in that pc" - DylDawg wrote:

Holy shit I did not expect that kind of entrance, not even from your post. I though he'd just come in being awesome with his theme song as always, but giving vitality to withered plavsky grass? That's straight up mechamessiah Although I would really love for Meijin getting 00 Qan[T] Amazing (because I'm a tool for 00), Perfect Gundam III really fits his whole crimson charclone thing. And I'm also a huge tool for black-red color scheme.

| this is getting ridiculous. lady kawaguchi? wha
and meijin definitely taking the whole crimson and three times the stuff overboard. Not complaining since he delivers the best dialog every single time. "As many times as you like. But only until store's closing time" is funny, seriously.
Winning Gundam is hella versatile. Fumina could probably do more shit without giving the others her parts. But if Winning Gundam is what it takes for this to go down the gattai route, I'm okay with it.
Also, dammit, new girl. Gyanko best girl forever.

| "He replies three times as fast too!" I also laughed that he's so Meijin, that his bike is red, he can just waltz in to any store with no problem, is called King of Gunpla, and he can slide gundams perfectly. So Jesus.
Lady Kawaguchi is okay. I definitely love the thing they've been doing with close combat SD Gundams. Them stylized Japanese characters for attack names/super modes.
Wonder what episode we will get their upgrades?
New girl added to Sekai's harem?

| We don't have an Anime News or Manga thread, so I don't know where to post this. But screw it. This demands an exposure. http://gate-anime.com/Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There is getting anime adaptation!!! It's time for some motherfucking diplomacy. Glorious nippon steelexplosion can destroy any ancient dragon. Filthy medieval gaijin go home. For those that doesn't know, Gate JSDF's (Japan Self-Defense Force if that's not apparent) premise is that somehow, a gate opened in the middle of Japan, to another fantasy medieval dimension, stuff like the usual sword and magic, dragons, catgirls and elfs that don't think twice of selling their body to curry favor. The main character is an otaku and there's a lot of female characters. Sounds horribly cliche and Outbreak Company, right? Well, damn them. Gate JSDF is a story about manly soldiers with manly explosives taking on footsoldiers that think they're awesome with their swords and spears without knowing that they just triggered claymores by marching right into them. It's about manly soldiers riding on helicopters, with Wagner's The Ride of Valkyries blasting through the stereo, raining down rockets up the collective asses of those pitiful medieval soldiers; making even the high and mighty, haughty princess to fall into a state of despair, stripping their honor and pride in the face of overwhelming destruction. It's about a man who punched a face of an irritable prince in the royal hall, surrounded by enemies on all side, because his countrywoman was violated fiendishly by these barbaric medieval sonuvabitches. Which actually doesn't even matter since semi-auto rifle of supreme technology made a quick work of them, but hey punching a prince in front of the enemy king and his subjects is goddamn awesome. And of course, we have jailbait magician, loli goddess, elfs and bondage dark elfs, but who cares. MC is an otaku soldier that cleared Ranger training (second-to-last though), already married (and divorced), with excellent philosophy of being lazy because "if you take a slacker ant out of the nest, 20% of the remaining population will slack off", who happens to be a chick magnet. I really like the writer's take on this "modern day in medieval fantasy" scenario, because seriously, our technology (and weaponry) is way too advanced to be stopped by freaking swords and steels. Everyone should read Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought there, Manga or LN. I recommend the Manga version because LN is yet to be fully translated (neither is the manga completed, but it's at least farther than current translation status). | |

| So fall season is finishing up. Of the shows that have finished airing that I watched...
Laughing Under the Clouds (Donten ni Warau) - Pretty 'meh' show overall. Wasn't expecting much, only kept watching because juuust enough was going on to keep me marginally interested. I liked the idea behind the title of smiling and laughing defiantly in the face of crushing despair - that's something I need to try myself more often.
Chaika the Coffin Princess - Avenging Battle - I already covered my reaction to the show's ending in my last post in this thread.
Lord Marksman and Vanadis - This show started out strong, then it started to fast forward through certain events, so that hardly anything had any real impact. What could have been a really good show turned into something pretty average.
Ore Twintail ni Narimasu - I enjoyed it but it kinda needed to be longer. This is definitely one of those shows where you watch it for the hijinks and the fact that every single character is at least a little CRAZY in some way.
Rage of Bahamut: Genesis - Holy shit this show was amazing. It kinda fell apart at the end and made some stupid choices like in a single moment they threw away all the development they were doing with Jeane d'arc and stuff, but it was thoroughly enjoyable all the way through. What a wild ride this was.

| I finished Amagi Brilliant Park last night. The show actually ends in the 12th episode, with the 13th being this weird episode about them making a PV for the park. Anyway, the show ended the way I figured it would. - Spoiler:
As the park gets over 500k visitors, the banker reveals that he is the wizard. Sento tries to shoot him, but he gets away. Kanie, Sento, and Moffle stay with Latifa as the clock gets closer to midnight. I wasn't expecting Latifa's breakdown, though. She doesn't want to forget anything again. A tree in her garden that helps fight her curse suddenly bursts into a huge bloom (its a bright and blue and shiny, its pretty nice), and she doesn't forget what happened the past year. Kaine resigns, but goes back to work shortly after when his sister tells him he looked happy doing his job. Plus he knows they can't run the park without him.

| So I finally got back to watching SAO's dub (focused on some other stuff after finishing the Aincrad arc.)
After finishing the first half, I ended up really liking the dub despite Klein and Agil sticking out. I actually think they made an excellent choice with Klein after all (I think I said before that Thornton was the perfect choice, I just wasn't sure of the voice he was using because it was different from classic Thornton) but Agil's token blackness still weirds me out (again, perfect voice actor choice, but Agil was definitely not a "cool black dude" stereotype in Japanese. I'm not talking "gangsta," thankfully, he just uses a lot of "hip" dialogue like "man" and "brotha" and has that kind of smooth accent.)
The Fairy Dance arc actually gets a lot more right. Suguha/Leafa is totes adorbs, basically a perfect choice, and Recon is actually one of the most similar dub/sub transitions I've ever heard, he basically sounds just like the Japanese actor. The script just generally seems better as well, if that makes any sense, not that it was bad before, but it went from excellent to amazing. There are still some silly modernizations (Leafa calls the Salamander mages "asshats" when asking why they were following them) but the introduction of MMO dialogue is still amusing (in Sylvain's tower, Sigurd's goon says they shouldn't gank Kirito there, for example.)
I really want Aniplex to hurry up with SAOII.

| Finished the TV series. I forgot to say last time that Haberkorn as Sugou was perfect, I find it funny how I find him so often miscasted with FUNi but so perfect in other dubs.
Also again I have to mention how good the Sword Art Offline extras are. They include valuable tidbits that the show doesn't, like how when Aincrad was introduced into ALO the flight time limit was removed. They also mention that Excalibur is the counter to Eugene's Demon Sword Gram, so Kirito's got any rematch in the bag. Seriously, seek them out if you aren't gonna buy the discs.

| So I think I noticed a rather large plot hole in SAO's anime. In episode 25 Kirito stated that he wasn't planning to convert his SAO avatar like everbody else (of course some of the side characters like Sasha, look way different) but while watching Extra Edition I just realized that he totally did! I never realized, maybe because I was too excited to start SAOII when I watched EE the first time, or because of how much time there was between Fairy Dance and Caliber I forgot his ALO appearance. I mean, I know the anime isn't perfect, I even read about some mistakes with incantations the anime made earlier today ( http://swordartonline.wikia.com/wiki/Sword_Art_Online_Episode_18#Errors )...But this is kind of a big deal. Cat man, have you got an explanation for that? I imagine the novels have illustrations occasionally so does this change happen there, too? | |

| I'm not sure the aspect of account conversion you're talking about.
Kirito didn't convert his SAO account into ALO like everyone else and instead create a new account, so no more absurd stats like the one he has in the beginning of Fairy Dance.
Or if you're talking about the physical appearance of him in ALO, he still uses that Spriggan avatar, but Yui scolds him about his spiky hair so he changed his hairdo to his SAO/real look so Yui can sit on top of his head. Not really a conversion, just, changing hairstyle at barber shop or something? Probably doesn't cost much either since his real life hairstyle is very generic.

| Haha, I guess that was the answer I was looking for, that's very SAO. I remember from Sword Art Offline that although they can't change their character models in SAO (and in ALO they're random,) in SAO at least they could change their hair colour (and I'm assuming the style as well) so that makes a lot of sense (that's how you got characters like Rika and Diabel, when you see Rika in the crowd after using the mirror in episode 1 she hasn't changed her hair to pink, a very nice touch.) I'm gonna post some screenshots as well once I get home, because I'm honestly curious if it was just his hair that changed (like you explained) in terms of his character design. I have a feeling that they actually changed his entire face to look like SAO/IRL Kirito which is why I assumed he converted. The point I made about account conversion is that I don't get the impression that converting keeps your stats, just your appearance. In episode 25 he tells Leafa that he "wiped" his stats, not that he created a new character, he was still using the bugged hybrid character, and presumably still is. Edit: I just uploaded a bunch of random screencaps for comparison. I mean, I think it's more a fact that it's difficult to keep faces the same when hairstyles change so drastically which made Kirito look so different during Fairy Dance, but still it's undeniable that these days he literally looks like himself with elf ears which is exactly the same as everybody else from the usual SAO group apart from Asuna. During the Fairy Dance arc, his jawline was also super angular. https://2img.net/h/oi60.tinypic.com/nwd4py.jpg SAO https://2img.net/h/oi57.tinypic.com/n1qtsi.jpg Fairy Dance https://2img.net/h/oi60.tinypic.com/2wn34ls.jpg Fairy Dance (with the quote I mentioned) https://2img.net/h/oi62.tinypic.com/4rc0hh.jpg Extra Edition (this is the scene where I first realized the change, go figure, right at the end) https://2img.net/h/oi57.tinypic.com/rr7fyr.jpg Extra Edition https://2img.net/h/oi60.tinypic.com/2e2dthv.jpg Extra Edition https://2img.net/h/oi61.tinypic.com/241v4hf.jpg Fairy Dance https://2img.net/h/oi59.tinypic.com/2rrnfo7.jpg Fairy Dance https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/Taiyz/DeadFishSwordArtOnlineII-15v2720pAACmp4_snapshot_0510_20141106_040957_zps77e680b5.jpg IRL https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/Taiyz/DeadFishSwordArtOnlineII-15v2720pAACmp4_snapshot_0511_20141106_041143_zpsbc69bfec.jpg Caliber http://www.gamekyo.com/images_1/7dd88af2c5ccc1d14aed6d4ec71b1bc520141109193738.jpg Lost Song boxart http://img.gamefaqs.net/screens/f/8/6/gfs_342610_2_10.jpg an IRL illustration from Hollow Fragment's gallery (this could be seen as a spoiler, I think) I'm kinda curious how the novel illustrations handled this. I mean, the dub script (or maybe it was a Sword Art Offline) points out that Kirito's character in ALO looks so much like him because his character data was compatible when he first registered, in a way he technically did convert albeit unwillingly, it's just that ALO started him a different hairstyle which he then changed to what he had before, after resetting his stats. Really I just thought it was an odd plot point to make a big deal out of, saying "THAT Kirito's adventure is over" when he basically converted it over, just in pieces. | |
